Anyone who’s been on the receiving end of a home-cooked meal knows this: food is love. Of course, there’s no exception for our favorite four-legged family members. Tasty and nutritious meals are the best way to show your fur baby you care (and you’ll receive wagging tails, purring and wet-nosed kisses back).

With spring on its way, now is the perfect time to boost the nutritional value of your fur baby’s meals. This season, we’re adding spring foods and salmon oil to our pet’s meals. Spring veggies are rich in antioxidants, minerals, and key nutrients while salmon oil is the easiest way to add essential fatty acids. These spring salmon-oil recipes are fresh, tasty, and full of everything your fur baby needs.

A Little Bit About Salmon Oil…

Salmon oil adds essential fatty acids to your fur baby’s diet — namely, Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. These nutrients are beneficial for your pet in many ways, but they’re specifically known for improving coat and skin health. As such, adding salmon oil to your cat or dog’s diet can help with shedding, itchy skin and dull coats. In other words, it makes for a more "huggable" coat.

Benefits Of Salmon Oil For Dogs And Cats:

  • Supports healthy growth and development
  • Improves immune system function
  • Contains nutrients to support healthy skin and coat
  • Boosts eye and ear health

So, how do you incorporate salmon oil and spring foods into your pet’s daily routine? Here are three tasty and quick spring-themed salmon oil recipes for dogs and cats.

CHEF’S TIP: We think the best salmon oil for pets is pawTree’s Wild Alaskan Salmon & Pollock oil. Whatever you choose, be sure to only use oil made from wild-caught fish!

Chicken Chow Chow Mein

A canine take on the traditional Chinese dish, this salmon oil recipe for dogs will get your fur baby drooling. Simply throw some healthy treats and vitamins atop your pet’s normal kibble, and your pup eats a breakfast of champions.

Ingredients:

Take your pet’s favorite kibble and top with Chicken Liver & Ginger pawTreats and carrots. Add one pump of salmon oil and stir. Throw in a dash of Chicken Medley seasoning, and let your pet enjoy!

*CHEF’S NOTE: Carrots should take up less than 10% of your pet’s meal. Too much roughage can hurt their stomach.

Chicken Cat-Chiatore

This clever take on cacciatore is the purrfect recipe for your sweet kitty. Cats especially adore salmon oil. Their meow-th will be watering as they eat up this nutrient-rich recipe.

Ingredients:

Dice up the pawTreats and broccoli and spread them on top of your pet’s food. Add a pump of salmon oil and stir to mix. Sprinkle a bit of pawPairings on top and let your fur baby chow down.

*CHEF’S NOTE: Broccoli should only take up 10% of your cat’s meal or less. Too much fresh veggies can cause GI issues.

German Shepherd’s Pie

Your fur baby deserves chef-level meals too! This take on Shepherd’s Pie will satisfy your pet’s taste buds and give them all the healthy things they need in a meal.

Ingredients:

Crumble a few of the pawTreats a-top your fur baby’s kibble. Add a pump of pawTree’s salmon oil and stir to mix. Season with a bit of beef medley pawPairings et voila! A gourmet meal.

*CHEF’S NOTE: Spinach should take up 10% or less of your pet’s meal. The allowable amount will depend on how much food your pup eats!

Making good and healthy meals for your fur baby can be so simple! These three spring veggie recipes are our favorites; they take almost no time at all, and your four-legged family member gets all the nutrients they need out of each and every meal. In return? You get kisses and a softer coat to hug.
